Without doubt, ICEBOX is the coolest place for hot creative talent this year.
ICEBOX, an open and collaborative moving-image festival, hosted by The Liquid Fridge, partnered by rustpunk and endorsed by Creative Commons SA, is putting out a call for works falling into the following categories: Narrative, Experimental/ Design, Documentary and Music Video.

The festival, entitled ICEBOX 02, aims to explore “the intersection of film, art, music and design in South African moving image” and will provide a space where creators can showcase their work. The festival will be held in Cape Town and Durban in 2006 (Jozi and other areas are still to be confirmed) and also plans to offer workshops and club nights concurrent to the screenings.

A cutting-edge festival deserves a forward-thinking policy, and this is why the festival supports Creative Commons licences for works submitted. Organiser Hein Bekker says, “We actively promote the use of open content licensing, both to spread awareness of the benefits of more flexible copyright, particularly in the African context, and to source material for the open content commons.”

Entry to the festival is free and multiple entries are accepted. Works should be submitted in cd or dvd format, although they may consist of non-digital mediums such as claymation. Entries are accepted from 29 May until 18 August 2006, and details for entering will be available on the Liquid Fridge website at this time.

So, if you believe that you’re hot stuff, with some really cool work to show, make use of ICEBOX’s showcase space, and enter your work now!
